For way too long I have been going to bed after 1:00 in the morning, dragging myself out of bed the next morning, being too tired to accomplish very much during the day and then sitting around in the evenings feeling pissed off with myself because I've wasted so much of the day yet again and being too wound up to be able to go to bed even though I'm barely keeping my eyes open at 9:30pm. At around 11:00pm I get my second wind and the next thing I know it's 1:00am again and I'm stuck on this treadmill of stupidity for another day.
I feel like crap, the kids cop a grumpy mum, the house is barely under control and the days pass by in a blur of exhaustion. And it's all self-inflicted.
Tonight I have a sore throat and the beginnings of a nasty behind the eyes type headache, I should do a couple of hours work for one of my jobs but if I start doing that now then tomorrow is going to be horrible.
I'm going to bed.

Oh...
I hope you feel better.
I hope you got yourself some sleep.
I hate it when I stay up late and I always promise to go to bed early the next night. Although, I don't remember the last time my eyes saw 1 in the morning. I hope that you can get some rest!
Oh Mim I know you struggle with being an Owl like me but for sanity's sake we really must sleep at night.
listen to your body and go to bed at 10pm not 1am or you won't have the energy to blog. I wouldn't want that!!!
tried having a schedule?
Something like homework, dinner, walk Clara whilst the kids clean up after tea, put a load of washing on, shower, put kids to bed, and then read. (note there is no blogging in there) Internets stuff should be not encouraged in the evening!
Also Reading isn't for everyone at night
I'm lucky reading in bed always makes me sleepy (bad when I was studying though)
Good luck.
I know you will be feeling refreshed soon
Em, you're quite right, I ought to ban myself from the 'puter at night.
I was in bed by 11pm, read for a while (which I love doing but it doesn't make me sleepy - if I'm reading a good book I'm quite capable of looking up from the page to find it's 2:00am!) and then turned the light out a bit before 12.
Then I woke up at 5:00am and couldn't get back to sleep arrrrgh! I did drift off eventually but clearly my body needs some retraining in the whole sleep patterns department.
I hope you feel better soon!!
Your letter is... B.
yes well i live with someone with the same crazy sleep pattern that you have!
personally i'm going pretty well the last couple of weeks with my sleep patterns. bed at a reasonable hour. up in the morning by about 6.30am. time to shower, have breakfast and clean dishes before heading to work.
of course it's easy at the moment as it's full daylight at 6am! winter time is the worst though - cold and dark.
Larry has a cold. The world is coming to an end. At least you're just a little out of whack sleepwise. I'm having problems with sleep too related to 1) Larry's chainsaw snoring, 2) my thyroid disorder, 3) menopause, 4) etc.; so my doc just prescribed me some Ambien. Darling, try it. Just for a few nights to catch up. It works and it's dreamy. Literally.
Adam snores too, loudly, cold or no, I can hear from the other end of the house. But then I do too so I try not to complain too much ;-)
I'm on shift at the moment, so my sleep patterns are out of whack too. I feel your pain, though I have few of your responsibilities.
Mim, I do this regularly when the kids are on holidays. It starts innocently enough - the book I just can't put down, or the decadent pleasure of watching a favourite movie while everyone else is sleeping. but soon enough I'm on the "bad sleep" treadmill.
Last week I forced myself to stop it! I've promised myself to be in bed prior to midnight every night. My sleep pattern is still out of whack (why is David's snoring so much louder here at the beach house???) but I am getting there!
Hope you have had some decent sleep by now.
B is also for Beautiful... as in beautful job.
I love your list Mim. I also love books, beaches, and if I'd had the bush to grow up around, I know I'd love that too.
Oh, and beer. Ever try Blue Moon? It's a great B word and a super popular orangy flavored wheat beer here in the states. Try it.
Thanks for the great post!
Oh, Mim, you are so much like me it isn't funny! The trouble is that you sound like you've retrained your body to exist on less sleep, just the way I have. I'm often up till 2 or 3, and like you I get that occasional early night, and what do I do: wake up at 4 am or 5 am (if I'm lucky), and then feel even worse. I don't know how to break the habit, but I know I have to. And you too, I think.
