Shh, don't tell anyone...

...I've decided to start doing the Couch to 5K program - henceforth C25K on account of keystroke rationing.

I wasn't going to tell anyone, I was just going to quietly get on that treadmill of mine downstairs and see where it took me (yeah, yeah, I know - not very far. /preemptive parenthetical joke). But Twitter was right there and before I knew it my thoughts had leaped from my fingertips to keyboard, serious contemplation became an actual decision and there were a whole bunch of friends saying "Cool idea, we might do it too!"

You won't read anything about it on the blog here but if you want to see where I'm at/point and laugh/join the fun and do it along with me then pop on over to my newly minted Mim's Muddle Facebook page, that's where I'll be whinging and gloating as I go.

Btw, it's all Liz, Em & Penny's fault.

I started running using C25K and now I'm a running addict! I love it and get withdrawal when i can't run (like now because of a foot injury!) Watch out, Mim, it's TOTALLY addictive!!

Good on you. I'm sure you'll love it. You know about the ipod downloads, right?

Yep, I do, though I could do with a recommendation for which podcast to use, there seems to be a whole bunch of them.

I would start with Robert Ullery. I then moved on to more hip-hop based podcasts. I need to find you the link of the gal I've been following lately... she's quite the inspiration! There are also podcasts you can download that will work with your own music- it beeps or tweets at you when it's time to change from walk to run and run to walk.

So proud of you Mim!!

I did it! I started :-) I managed 6 of the 8 one minute intervals in the first workout and was still able to walk back upstairs at the end. Go me.

I decided I couldn't come at listening to someone else's music choices so I used Lestyn's music-less ones. I'll probably watch dvds while I workout mostly so they'll be perfect.

Good for you!
This app http://c25kapp.com/ is the one Rod uses with his iPod so he can listen to his music but get the cues to run/walk.

Is the treadmill in your house? I highly recommend dragging a laptop down in front of it and watching sitcoms on hulu.com. I've spent many hours watching Friends while sweating my hind end off on the elliptical. Good luck!

Yep, we have a gym set up in the rumpus room downstairs - treadmill, bike and weights machine - all facing the old TV & DVD player. I'll be raiding our DVD collection as hulu.com is pretty much useless here - everything I want to watch is region blocked. I'm thinking Farscape or Stargate SG-1 might be the go.

Hi Mim! I think this is my first actual comment here.

I started the c25k program a few months ago. It took me five weeks to work up to the first week, then when I got up to the second week, I got a bit overexcited, ran two days in a row (it explicitly says not to) and got a pretty bad knee injury for my trouble. So avoid that! :)
